I met with my academic adviser yesterday to get back into school, and I'm not even going to lie, I loved her. She actually took time to talk to me, and THAT blew my mind. Everything is different, I mean, duh it's a community college, and I was going to a huge university, but still. I'm working towards my ASN, and upon graduation can make $50,000 a year, which I'm super excited about. I'm going to, hopefully, get hired at a hospital that has it's own education program for their ASN holders. Which, if you don't know about it, if you work at a hospital and they are willing and have the program in place, they will pay for you to go back to school and get your BSN. The only difference it really a couple more classes. BS I think. You get your
RN either way, but it's just a different degree.
School is going to cost me about an even grand, out of pocket, for 10 hours of school, which really is kinda great lol. I'm paying $135 for one loan payment a month, $125 for my car insurance, and a cool $60 for another loan payment. This is all kinda terrifying, because my car has the temperament of a two year old with an ear ache, so we'll see how it feels this summer. Hopefully it likes summer as much as I do, and behaves for just three months with no major problems. DO YOU HEAR ME NANA? IT'S ONLY 3 MONTHS, YOU CAN DO THIS! Yes, I do call my car Nana.
So all in all my budget looks like this...
Average of $160 per week, with 17 pay checks before my deadline (self-induced deadline)
$2720 total for the whole 17 weekss
$30 per week for gas, Which leaves us at:
$130 per week, totaling $2210
$72 per week for school, in a savings account only my parents have access to (I'm a "oooh shiny spender, its bad.)
$1224 total for school= books&tuition
$320 per month for all of my bills
$986 left over after putting money up, sooooo that means $58 per week saved for bills.
986/320= roughly exactly 3 months of bills. Thank you Jesus.
I know that I'm probably saving too much for school, but that does include all of the school supplies. And I can go way overboard on those. I was one of those nerd kids with the backpack all ready two weeks before school. I'll probably have 12 packs of pencils and no paper but eh whatever. That's what my laptop is for.
Aaaaaand speaking of laptops....if I get a 2nd job, I'm fairly certain that I can manage to swing getting a new laptop in time for school. Like a good Dell, not this little Toshiba that the hinge is messed up on. Stupid. I figure if I work 2-4 days a week at a second job like PJ's where I worked before where I can pick my own schedule, I can make roughly $60-$80 per week, which if I don't get a job for another 6 weeks will still give me 10 weeks for a pay period which equals $600-$800 for a laptop!!
So all in all I feel like a beast and if you know me you know that I have no willpower and I'm dying inside because I'm not sure that I can do this. But I know that I have to.
Do I want that shirt, and not be able to go to school and work at the grocery store forever? No. NO I do NOT.
